A LETTER FROM MY PASTOR TO PRESIDENT OBAMA .....

Dear Mr. President,

Your support of gay marriage is one that I could never agree with you, because your position is a denial of Biblical truth and ultimately denies the God of the Bible. You say your understanding has been evolving. Absolute truth does not change. You can refine your understanding and communicate it more effectively, but truth is not relative and evolving. Your new statement on marriage redefines it, thus you are redefining God.

I do not believe you intend to commit idolatry, but that is what you have done. By redefining marriage you have broken the first and second commandments. I believe you are sincere in your reasons for changing your stance and believe you are trying to help people. You use Jesus' teaching on the Golden Rule and practical stories of gays who are raising families in a commitment of marriage. Good intentions are the pathway to hell when they oppose the truth of God.

The root of the issue is we have different world views. I have a Biblical world view while your world view is a mixture of pick and choose Bible teachings, secular humanism, and pragmatism. My world view says the chief end of man is to glorify God as given by the inspired Word of God. It is rooted in absolute truth revealed by God in His Word. Your world view states the chief end of man is his own happiness. You choose Bible verses that agree with your opinion and reject those that disagree. For you the Bible seems to be a good book written by men, thus there is no absolute truth. All truth is relative and evolving. So, you are a pragmatist. If something works use it and do it. This is a philosophy that has fought against God's truth for two hundred years in America.

You say Jesus said, do unto others as you would have them do unto you as one of the basis for your decision. Yet, as you have done in the past, you pick a verse that appears to represent your position. However, Jesus said that truth in the context of God's moral law. Therefore, it does not apply in support of gay marriage, because Jesus confirmed the Old Testament Law that homosexual behavior is an abomination in the eyes of God. We are not to do unto others as we would have them do unto us outside the bounds of God's absolute moral Law. So, yes, love all people, treat them with honor, respect, and value, but do not condone behavior that contradicts God's truth. Jesus said He came to fulfill the Law and Prophets and all through His teachings He references to the Mosaic Covenant and its truth. In dying for our sins, He removed the sacrificial system of Moses, ended the punishment for sins as taught by Moses, and gave us the new covenant, which is salvation by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ and His death on the cross. Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice for God's truth, His Law and the Prophets, so we might live. By supporting gay marriage you break the law of God and make a mockery of Jesus' death. I do not believe you intend to do this, but that is the result of your decision. You have created your own god and bowed down to the gods of humanism, pragmatism, and relativism. Again, I do not believe that is your desire, but just as the Jews of the Old Testament committed idolatry and were called to repent by the prophets, so too we are called today to repent for our sins and the sins of our nation. The Jews refused to repent and God judged them. May God have mercy on us and may we respond with brokenness and humility in turning back to God.

You and others imply that if we truly loved homosexuals we would agree with you. To define marriage as a covenant between a man and a woman is not hate, but an expression of love. I do not hate homosexuals, nor do I condemn them for their sinful behavior, but as a man called of God to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ I am called to offer hope to all people through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. We all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. I am just as much a sinner as a homosexual and just as much in need of God's forgiveness and gift of life in Jesus Christ.

Certainly, the issue of gay marriage is a complex one, and one the church has often failed to deal with love and compassion. That is no excuse to redefine marriage and God. Yet, that is what you have done and now we are open to God's judgment if you and I do not repent as Nehemiah and Daniel did for the sins of their people. May we come together in humility and oneness to seek God and turn from our wicked ways so He will heal our land. Jesus Christ and God's truth are our only hope. I pray in the evolution of your thinking, you hear the Holy Spirit's conviction in the midst of the human voices that fill our lives and turn from the idolatry that has brought God's judgment on the kings of Israel in the past, so we can enjoy a glorious future in America worshiping God and receiving a fresh wind of His blessings upon our nation. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has the power to transform and deliver all men and women. Jesus came to set every captive free and proclaim the year of jubilee.

I will be praying for you with a heart that is weeping and mourning for us, our people, and our nation.
